My name is JoAnn Blackwood, and I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible community of volunteers. My journey began over 20 years ago when my daughter Heather joined her first competitive dance team. Very quickly, my husband Ken and I realized we needed a way to support her passion — and that led us to help form our first fundraising group with four other families.
Over the years, that group grew into a thriving 501(c)(3) that supported hundreds of dancers, gymnasts, and performing artists — including all three of my children: Heather, Kristyn, and Daniel. Through those scholarships, Heather and Kristyn trained at a professional level, with Heather performing for the Walt Disney Company and Kristyn now teaching at Center Stage Dance Academy.
In 2018, Ashley Firth, Victoria Weaver, and I followed a new dream: creating an organization that would support all competitive youth — dancers, performers, gymnasts, athletes, and cheerleaders. We wanted every child, every Champion, to pursue their dreams without financial barriers. On October 1, 2018, Competitive Champions of the Carolinas (3C) was born.
My son Daniel has also been a 3C scholarship recipient and is now building his own professional career in dance and choreography. And with grandchildren now entering dance and travel baseball, my connection to this mission continues to grow.
Today, I’m honored to serve as President and CEO of 3C. Helping young people chase their passions is what drives me — because no child should ever be denied their dreams due to finances
My name is Tami Pettigrew. I am a full time assistant principal in Fort Mill and a mother to my 10 year old daughter, Olivia. She is 10 years old and lives to dance. I enjoy being a part of 3C because the volunteering I do with them supports Olivia and her dance aspirations. I enjoy the flexibility that I have in choosing venues that work with my schedule. 3C definitely makes dance more affordable for our family.
As a Board Director I would like to make sure that everyone that wants to volunteer toward supporting their child’s extra-curricular activities is given that chance.
My name is Mandi Martinez. I was introduced to 3C in the Fall of 2021 by Amy Leggett and was thoroughly impressed and excited to participate in the 3C organization and events. I am currently a veterinary hospital practice manager, but previously was in restaurant management and served as a general manager, inventory manager, and kitchen manager. I also worked at Kings Dominion (sister company to Carowinds) as a Food and Beverage area manager and individual stand manager.
My son, Roland, is my Champion. He is a 14 year old competitive dancer at Dancers Edge in Winston-Salem. He has been dancing since age 4. We live in Virginia, but 7 years ago, he started commuting 2 hours to Dancers Edge every week so that he could have better opportunities in a positive environment. His goal is to be a professional commercial dancer. Because of 3C Roland has been able to be in more competitive dances this season AND go to more conventions and events beyond the normal schedule.
I am so excited to work with new event areas/ opportunities in the Triad area as well as Charlotte. I look forward to continuing to share my gratitude for 3C and promoting 3C to other local groups. I am also happy to help with continuing to build relationships with our partners at Spectra at Wake Forest, the Greensboro Coliseum and other area opportunities.
My name is Brigitte Pitts. I live in Lake Wylie with my husband, daughter and son! Brooklyn is my wonderful 9 year old who loves anything artsy and cheerleading. Braylon is 14 who is autistic and loves to read and anything about history! I love being a teacher in Gaston County teaching Pre-k! This allows me to spend more time with my children. Brooklyn started cheering when she was 4 years old. A year later she started competitive cheer! With the cost of her practices, gymnastics, private lessons, competition fees, and uniform the cost completely overwhelmed me! That’s when a friend and dance mom introduced me to 3C! They were welcoming and walked me through the whole process on how to volunteer. I started in the Fall of 2019 with the Carolina Panthers, UNCC, Hornets, and Knights. Then COVID hit and everything stopped! When the email came in that we can volunteer again I jumped for joy! I love volunteering with this group as they become a small family together.
This group has allowed me to give my daughter the joy of doing something that she loves without the worry about how I’m going to afford it! Without 3C I don’t know if Brooklyn would be able to do competition cheer! This group has also given me friendships that go beyond just volunteering!
I am extremely grateful for 3C and everything that they do! I am excited to join the wonderful group of Board Directors. I plan to help 3C grow and expand. I believe that there are dance and cheer studios that could benefit from becoming part of 3C. I believe that by being a cheer mom I will be able to bring in a different perspective to the Board as our needs can be slightly different. I look forward to working with everyone.
My Name is Kim Nearpass. I live and work in Fort Mill, SC. I have been married to my husband Brian for 10 years. We have a (soon to be) 18-year-old son Colin and an 8-year-old daughter Evelyn. Colin has been a competitive dancer for 11 years and Evelyn has been racing BMX bikes for 2 years. Having two kids in competitive activities, the fees add up! I love that I have the opportunity to volunteer with 3C so that my kids can continue to enjoy doing the activities they love and pursue their dreams.
As a Board Director, I hope to continue to grow the program as well as provide our volunteers with the best opportunities to help support their champions dreams!
3C Advisory Committee
My name is Crystal Robinson, I am a wife and mother of 3(22, 17 and 15). I am a Real Estate Paralegal of 25 years. I grew up in Durham, NC and moved to Alamance County 23 years ago. My champions are Peyton Robinson and she is a Senior this year. She plays travel softball for the Spirits Fastpitch. She enjoys hanging out with her friends. After graduation she plans to continue playing softball while majoring in Exercise Science. My other champion is Graham, he is 15 years old and has been dancing since he was 6 years old. He dances for Dancer's Edge and he was the reason for getting involved with 3C. When he is not dancing he enjoys playing video games and hanging out with his friends.
I am Paula Imes and I live in Winston-Salem, NC. I am a Team Lead in the Commercial Real Estate Services Department at Wells Fargo Bank. I am currently a student at Strayer University and will have my Bachelors in Business with a concentration in Accounting in 2024. I have been volunteering with 3C since October 2021, primarily in the Triad area.
Londyn Imes is my Champion. She is 14 years old and has been dancing for 9 years with this being her 6th year being competitive. She loves to dance at Dancers Edge and 3C has helped to finance her competitions! I have 2 older sons and 3 grandchildren. I also have been singing with a Gospel Community Choir, Willie Mason & Friends, for 14 years. I have been singing with them since the group started.
While volunteering, I have stepped up and taken a lead role which allows 3C the ability to expand the number of events available to the volunteers in the Triad Area. I also took responsibility for developing inventory forms for the Greensboro Coliseum and Wake Forest. I completed an Alcohol Training at Greensboro Coliseum which was requested for all group leaders in December 2022.
Hello! My name is Jackie Knapp, I live in Mint Hill with my husband Ben, son Liam (19) and daughter Michaela (16). With us are my real babies, our three pitties, and they keep us busy!
I own an accounting firm which lets me work from home while homeschooling my kids. I love to help others grow their businesses and understand their financials! I am a numbers nerd 😁.
We are getting ready to move Liam off to college, and we will miss him, but he wants to pursue his dream too. He is following me in my love for math, but entering the engineering field.
Michaela is our champion, dancing at We're Dancin' in Indian Trail. We love watching her shine on stage and follow her heart!
Ben and I have loved working with 3C! It has brought opportunities to our family we would have not had before. We are able to not only give Michaela further training opportunities, but it has allowed us to offer more to Liam for his martial arts.
We look forward to continuing with 3C, creating opportunities and meeting incredible people.
My name is Stephanie Rikard, and I teach middle school. I have been in education for 16 years. I have 3 children. Koby, 21, Makalyn, 19, and Kennedy, 9. Koby was a competitive wrestler in high school and a member of Darkhorse Wrestling Club. He graduated in 2020 from Kings Mountain High school and App State in 2023! My girls have been a part of Dance Magic studio since 2012 from competitive cheer (Mak) to mommy and me classes, dance, and now competitive cheer again (Kenn)! Makalyn did competitive cheer for 4 years along with competitive travel softball and club volleyball! She graduated in 2023 from Kings Mountain High School AND Cleveland Community College! She now attends UNC Charlotte and works at Billy Graham Library. She will graduate in December 2024 with a degree in psychology. Now Kennedy is my champion as a competition cheerleader at Dance Magic and has been for the last 4 years.
Go Extreme Magic Allstars!!
I started volunteering with 3C in 2021 to help with the cost of competitive cheer. I had no idea how much 3C would help my family. 3C has been an amazing opportunity for my champion and myself! Not only for financial support but it has allowed me to meet many new people and make new friends. By volunteering with 3C I have been able to allow Kenedy to continue competitive cheer, meet a lot of new people with 3C and the venues I volunteer with, as well as tell others about the mission and goals of 3C, which is to support our champions and youth competitive athletics.
I am excited to work with this amazing Board to continue to help 3C grow and support more champions!!
My name is Davis Allred. I live in York, SC with my wife, Jessica, and two daughters, Ann Clayton (13) and Emily (11). During the day, I am a Technical Manager for a chemical company. There, I manage a group of chemists who work together to develop flexible packaging printing inks. I have been with my company for 20 years, and I am truly passionate about what we do. If you ever have time to talk, be sure to ask me about the work I do!
My two girls are competitive dancers with Step South Dance Company in Rock Hill, SC. They both started dancing before starting school, and when they were asked to join the competitive team, they dove in headfirst and haven’t looked back. Ann Clayton has found her passion is rhythmic tap, while Emily cannot get enough hip hop!
Like my daughters, I believe if you are going to be a part of something you should give it your all. After their first competition season, I became one of the Prop Dads and have also been known to have a themed outfit based on the production theme each year.
I first learned of 3C from another dance parent two-years ago. Once they explained how it worked, and that volunteering could help offset some of the dance costs I again jumped in headfirst. It wasn’t too long into working that I found my passion cooking burgers at BOA. I quickly started to be called the “Burger Guy.” With the newfound talent, I also started to see the impact the scholarships made in the dance account at the studio. There were months that went by that we didn’t owe a thing! On top of the financial impact, I have also been able to meet some awesome people. The volunteers that I have worked with at 3C are all onboard about doing whatever it takes to provide the best scholarship possible to their champion as well as the others around them.
When I was asked to be a part of the Advisory Board, I knew it was something that I wanted to be involved in. In this new role I will help spread the message of what 3C means to me while also making sure I listen and advocate for current volunteers when needed. I look forward to learning and growing with 3C!
Hi there! I’m Lakesha McNeil and currently living in Winston Salem, NC. During the day, I help companies stand out by creating innovative, unforgettable customer experiences—kind of like being the DJ at a party everyone wants to crash. Outside of when I’m in marketing mode, I’m a proud dance mom, cheering on my daughter as she rocks the stage with Dancer’s Edge and the Mount Tabor High School Varsity Dance Team. I am also apart of the PTSA Board, helping support the Arts for students in our community.
My hobbies include singing off-key at concerts & festivals, eating too much at family get-togethers, and thinking I can pull off dance moves I definitely can’t. Life’s a dance—and I’m just trying to keep up! I am excited to be a part of the advisory committee at Competitive Champions of the Carolinas (3C)! Honored to support our incredible volunteers as we work together to help our champions achieve their dreams.
My name is Laura, and I live in the Charlotte area with my four children: Abigail, Austin, Ari, and Autumn. I homeschool Ari and Autumn, while my older two are pursuing their career paths, Abigail is studying to become a dental hygienist, and Austin recently earned his pilot’s license and is working toward a career as an airline pilot.
I began my 3C journey in 2019 to support my oldest daughter, and now my youngest, Autumn, has followed in her sister’s footsteps as a competitive cheerleader. I am incredibly thankful for all that 3C has done for us and the opportunities it has provided my girls. Even more, I am grateful for the family I have gained through 3C. I’ve met amazing people and built friendships that will last a lifetime. I am deeply passionate about what 3C stands for and the opportunities it provides for our Champions.
Outside of 3C and being a homeschooling cheer mom, I’m a travel designer and photographer with a love for all things Disney. I’m honored to serve on the 3C Advisory Committee and look forward to helping volunteers and families support our Champions as they thrive and pursue their passions.

My family and I live in Salem, VA and I have grown up here my entire life. We have 2 children, Ellie who is 9 and Luke who is 5.
